Checking account growth declined year over year through the pandemic across all of consumer banking, and Mountain America was not exempt from that pressure. Instead of staying the course with our marketing strategy, however, we pivoted to looking for ways to drive consumer banking growth in that challenging environment. We created a MyStyle Checking campaign to put our flagship checking product’s rewards program front and center as one of a member’s primary reasons to stay with the credit union.
We activated benefits by using local influencers who authentically reflected the real world value of each benefit, resulting in an integrated, multi-channel campaign featuring five influencers and the top five rewards benefits.
The results of our team’s strategy and execution speak for themselves: net new checking increased by 105%, account closures dropped by 50%, and new MyStyle checking accounts were up by 120% in Arizona, our newest market.
