Tasked with growth in Mountain America’s newest market, we leveraged sponsorships as a strategic lever to build authentic community connection. In our partnership with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury basketball team—a franchise rooted in leadership and local impact—we strategized/executed on/etc to combine team sponsorship opportunities with cause-driven initiatives.
We launched with custom Phoenix Mercury debit and credit cards that turned everyday banking into an expression of fandom. And we created an integrated campaign to support the launch that included athlete media day content, team member events, youth sports camps, and in-arena activations. My team delivered digital content, stadium signage, and a motion spot by deftly combining two separate design systems into a cohesive and coherent campaign to highlight the new card designs.
The results were immediate: the credit union saw a 30% membership growth in the Arizona footprint, with many of that group choosing our flagship MyStyle checking account. Follow-on effects like brand awareness continue to drive growth in Arizona even today, demonstrating the power of community-first sponsorships to drive business growth.
